How to Meet with God: 6 Simple Steps to Hear His Voice and Walk in Peace
Hey friend,
Have you ever sat down with the intention to meet with God… only to end up scrolling your phone, overthinking, or feeling too overwhelmed to even start?
You’re not alone.

Maybe you’re in a season where life feels loud, your mind is spinning, or your soul is weary from carrying too much. Or maybe you’re longing for deeper connection with God—but you don’t quite know how to enter in.
Today, I want to walk you through a simple but powerful 6-step process to meet with God intentionally—so you can stop spinning your wheels and start hearing His voice, walking in clarity, and experiencing true peace.
Whether you’re a mom navigating a full household, a woman pursuing a calling, or someone just trying to find her footing again—this process is for you.
Grab a delicious cup of coffee and let’s walk through How To Meet With God together.

Step 1: Worship + Surrender
Start by quieting the noise.
Before you open your Bible, before you start journaling—pause. Put on worship music. Take a few deep breaths. Let your soul settle.
Say something simple, like:
“God, I’m here. I surrender. Speak, Lord—Your servant is listening.”
This moment is about shifting your heart posture from performing to receiving. You’re not checking a spiritual box—you’re entering into holy conversation. You’re setting aside distractions to give God your attention, your affection, and your yes.
This isn’t about having the perfect setup. It’s about showing up with a soft, open heart.
When you start with worship, you’re aligning your heart to His presence, not your pressure. And that changes everything.
Step 2: Seek Wisdom in Scripture

Let the Word lead you.
Now, open your Bible. Don’t overthink where to start. You can begin with a Psalm, a chapter in Proverbs, or a passage from a reading plan. Just ask:
“Lord, what do You want to show me today?”
God’s Word is alive—it has something fresh for you right now, even if you’ve read it a hundred times before. Let Him guide your eyes and highlight what your heart needs most.
- If you’re feeling heavy, go to Psalm 34.
- If you’re facing decisions, open Proverbs.
- If you’re craving intimacy, read John 15.
Keep it simple. Don’t try to study everything—just receive what God gives. Circle a word. Write down a verse. Let it sink in. The goal isn’t information—it’s transformation.

Step 3: Review Goals with God
Invite God into your plans.
This is where your planner or journal becomes a spiritual tool. (I use my Pace of Peace Journal because it helps me slow down and reflect intentionally.)
Open your calendar, to-do list, or goals—and lay them before God. Ask:
- “Are these still aligned with what You’re calling me to do?”
- “What can I let go of?”
- “What needs to be prioritized?”
So often, we make plans and then ask God to bless them. But this step flips that. It brings your plans under His authority. It’s a chance to trade overwhelm for alignment.
You might find that something that felt urgent… isn’t actually essential. Or something you’ve been putting off is now your next faith step.
Let God speak into your goals—not just your quiet time.
Step 4: Listen + Journal

Let God speak—and write it down.
Now that your heart is centered, your Bible is open, and your goals are laid before God—pause. Be still.
Just listen.
- You might hear a whisper in your spirit.
- You might see a mental picture.
- You might sense a word or a gentle nudge.
Write down whatever comes. Don’t filter it. Don’t worry if it “makes sense” right away. God speaks in many ways—your journal becomes the space to capture His fingerprints on your heart.
Even one word from God can shift everything.
“My sheep hear my voice…” (John 10:27)
As you grow in this habit, you’ll start to recognize His voice more clearly—and you’ll find that He’s been speaking more than you realized. Journaling helps you remember it.

Step 5: Write a Recap + Next Steps
Clarify what God said—and what you’ll do about it.
After journaling, take a few minutes to summarize what you sensed.
- What stood out to you today?
- What is God asking you to do?
- What are you letting go of?
- What do you need to believe, shift, or start?
Clarity brings confidence. When you write it down, it moves from a vague feeling to a clear direction.
This is where your spiritual time becomes practical. It’s how you start living from a place of purpose instead of pressure.

Step 6: Close in Prayer

Seal it with thanksgiving and peace.
End your time with God by praying from your heart. You don’t need fancy words. Just speak honestly.
- Thank Him for meeting you.
- Praise Him for what He revealed.
- Ask for His peace to guide your next steps.
You might pray something like:
“God, thank You for meeting me today. Thank You for Your voice, Your peace, and Your clarity. Help me walk in obedience, not overwhelm. I give You my day, my mind, my heart, and my goals. Lead me step by step.”
And then… breathe.
You just met with the God of the universe.
